The Research on the Road Residencies are meant to be a series of gatherings intended for community leaders, transportation advocates, and other professionals working towards advancing equity within transportation planning. The residencies are spaces for learning exchanges based on the current work conducted by the Othering and Belonging Institute (OBI) at UC Berkeley, and on-the-ground work from community leaders. Additionally, OBI staff will spend time engaging with local leaders to learn about local equity and transportation needs, which will inform OBI’s research agenda for future work. Residencies will be held in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Fresno.

Residency Goals:

  • Visibilize the Transportation Work carried out by the OBI team.
  • Share the Leaders-in-Residence Radical Imagination Zine
  • Offer and present lessons learned from OBI’s approach to Equitable Transportation Planning
  • Learn and build relationships with on-the-ground leaders working to advance Transportation Justice in their respective communities.
  • Hold town halls with community leaders, transit advocates, and working professionals to help co-create goals and priorities for OBI’s research agendas.

Programming: Two-day residency consisting of workshops, and town halls. Below is a short description of the activities that would be taking place during the residency.

  • Presentation of CARB Evaluation: OBI will present the frameworks, methodologies, and initial findings found as a part of the work carried out assessing and evaluating a state-agency run program aimed at advancing equity in transportation planning.
