Our work around disability and belonging is rooted in the efforts of our Disability Studies faculty cluster, comprised of 12 leading UC Berkeley faculty scholars who undertake research, policy analysis, teaching, and community partnerships around disability issues at the local, national, and global levels.
Working to understand the meaning and effects of disability socially, legally, politically, and culturally at various points in history, this cluster seeks to eliminate barriers to full social inclusion for people with disabilities, including elucidating the complexities of disability experience and developing new critical paradigms for understanding disability in relation to race, gender, sexuality, and other forms of group-based identity.
