Our efforts to expand belonging for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) individuals is rooted in the scholarship of our LGBTQ Citizenship faculty cluster, which explores the ways LGBTQ people experience harm in our society, ranging from legal and extralegal discrimination to structural violence and sexual regulation, with particular attention to how sexuality and gender intersect with class, race, nationality, age, and disability.
The cluster, which includes more than a dozen UC Berkeley scholars working from academic disciplines as diverse as Education, Art Practice, Law, and English, aims to change public policy, public discourse, and societal norms around gender and sexuality through teaching as well as through intellectual, artistic, and activist work.
