On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 21, 2019, Director john powell spoke on the Reverend Dr. King’s legacy at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research. Director powell centered his discussion around Dr. King’s vision of reconciliation toward the beloved community which embodies the Haas Institute’s principles of bridging toward a society of belonging where all are included within the circle of human concern. Director powell also spoke on the need to build identities that are rooted in belonging and togetherness as opposed to dominance and hierarchy. Through this process and the work of co-creating newly imagined and just institutions, a society where all belong can be achieved.
