The Monterey Public Library (California's first public library founded in 1849) is one of 36 libraries to receive a grant to participate in Book to Action - an opportunity to read, discuss, and act on a select book that's relevant to their community. As part of Book to Action on June 30, 2021, Dr. powell gave a presentation and Q&A session at the library on the topic of othering and belonging, in relation to Monterey Library's book choice, Caste by Isabel Wilkerson.
The Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley brings together researchers, organizers, stakeholders, communicators, and policymakers to identify and eliminate the barriers to an inclusive, just, and sustainable society in order to create transformative change.
