Racial formation book talk

The Program of Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies Presents

Michael Omi & Howard Winant

Racial Formation in the United States

a book talk

Michael Omi and Howard Winant discuss the new edition of Racial Formation in the United States (2015), published 20 years after the release of the previous edition. While the authors have maintained the overall structure of their classic work, they have completely revised and rewritten every chapter. The ambitious purpose of the book remains the same: to provide an account of how concepts of race are created and transformed, how they become the focus of political conflict, and how they come to shape and permeate both identities and institutions.
