On October 20th, Director john a. powell presented the work of the Othering & Belonging Institute to WRLD CTY - The Global Forum for Urban Innovation on the importance and role of belonging in community health and well-being. powell used this engagement as an opportunity to share the Othering & Belonging Institute’s frameworks, including how othering can worsen existing social determinants of health stressors; how place-making, social connection, and belonging promote health; and how society can create future cities where all belong.
The Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley brings together researchers, organizers, stakeholders, communicators, and policymakers to identify and eliminate the barriers to an inclusive, just, and sustainable society in order to create transformative change.
