On November 1 2019 , Director john. a. powell, along with Professor Rachel Godsil, presented to an audience of U.S. Attorneys and federal judges in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the morning session, powell shared his thoughts on belonging, the historical roles of prosecutors and judges in racialization and othering, and an introduction to implicit bias and the psychological bases of othering. In the afternoon, he and Godsil led break-out sessions discussing the implications of unconscious processes on decision-making in the U.S. criminal legal system.
