This is a research brief to accompany the 2022 survey report we published entitled Aligning Federal Policy to Local Needs.
As we emerge from the peak of the global pandemic, there is a great need to ensure that any opportunity associated with the crises of our time is directed to transforming the structures that make people and places vulnerable. This opening is one to expand systems of care for people and the places they live—including most impacted communities and our shared planet.
This report focuses on the transformative power of federal policy, even amid political impasses and constraints. However, its orientation is to connect the potential of federal policy to enable the work of groups, coalitions, and movements that have been achieving and promoting place-based innovation for years.
