Prof. john powell, Director of the Haas Diversity Research Center (HDRC) and The Robert D. Haas Chancellor’s Chair in Equity and Inclusion, is seeking 2 law student research assistants.  The position will require at least 5-10 hours of work per week.  Hourly wage is based on education/experience. No benefits are provided.

Principal Duties:

RAs may work on research on a wide variety of topics including, but not limited to: civil rights and human rights, racial and economic segregation, sexual orientation, religion, disability, gender, housing law, questions pertaining to the 14th Amendment, immigration and citizenship. RAs may assist in legal analysis, legal research, preparation of presentations, conferences and other engagements, writing projects including book chapters, journal articles, and bibliographic reviews.

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least one semester of law school completed

  • Experience and familiarity with the Bluebook system of legal citation

  • Familiarity and experience with Power Point.

  • A demonstrated interest in issues social justice.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Demonstrated writing ability and competence with Microsoft word.

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently
