Kate Knowles works as a Data Analyst with the Equity Metrics program. She is involved with the US Segregation project and the research around Zoning Reform advocacy.

Before starting at the Othering and Belonging Institute in 2024, Kate worked at the Institute for Social Research and Data Innovation at the University of Minnesota. She specialized in spatial data analysis, leveraging GIS to measure access to healthcare for a range of public health projects. Additionally, she led the production of 1970 and 1980 census block boundaries for the National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS). Kate also created data reports and education materials as an intern at WE ACT for Environmental Justice and conducted research on the intra-city distribution of air pollution at the University of Virginia.

Kate grew up in Middlebury, Vermont, and earned her B.S. in Environmental Science at the University of Virginia. When she’s not making maps or writing code, Kate can be found outdoors cycling, skiing, or running.
