On February 26th, Director john a. powell provided the afternoon keynote for Project Equality’s 2020 Diversity & Inclusion Summit focused on combatting gentrification in Kansas City, MO. Following a morning keynote from the Institute’s Senior Fellow Richard Rothstein, Professor powell presented on contemporary race-based patterns of housing displacement in Kansas City's historically Black neighborhoods. Director powell subsequently provided a menu of policy options the city could consider implementing to shift their rapidly changing housing market from one that facilitates displacement to one that instead facilitates belonging and equity.
