Upcoming Recruitment: OBI Communications Director
The Othering and Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley will soon launch a recruitment for a Communications Director, a senior leadership role focused on advancing narrative change, shaping public discourse, and elevating research grounded in belonging. This role will develop and lead a multi-year communications strategy that integrates research, storytelling, policy, and culture to help make belonging without othering a global norm.
The Communications Director will oversee a seasoned communications team and steward the Institute’s voice across media, digital platforms, and major convenings, including our 2026 Othering & Belonging Conference in Louisville, KY.
The recruitment is expected to open in late February, with a target start date in late spring 2026. The expected salary range is $115,000–$145,700, commensurate with experience and aligned with the University’s equity-based salary scale. This position will be remote-friendly with an ability to work from the Berkeley campus at least twice a week.
Please share this with anyone you think would be an excellent candidate. We welcome nominations and referrals at pforbes@berkeley.edu of experienced communications and narrative leaders—particularly those with deep experience in social justice, movement communications, media strategy, and public storytelling. Additional details and application instructions will be shared when the position officially opens.
