The Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society is seeking a research assistant.  The position will require at least 8 hours of work per week. Hourly wage is based on education/experience. No benefits are provided.

The Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society brings together researchers, stakeholders, policymakers, and communicators to identify and challenge the barriers to an inclusive, just, and sustainable society and to create transformative change. The Haas Institute serves as a national hub of a vibrant network of researchers and community partners and will take a leadership role in translating, communicating, and facilitating research, policy, and strategic engagement. The Haas Institute advances research and policy related to marginalized people while essentially touching all who benefit from a truly diverse, fair, and inclusive society.

Principle Duties
RAs may work on research on a wide variety of topics including, but not limited to: social and political movements, networks for social and political change, and labor movements.  Methodologies may include interviews, internet searches, and literature reviews.  The RA may be asked to present their work in a variety of formats—memorandumss, database entry, or the preparation of presentations.  The RA will work with HIFIS staff to develop research design, analyze findings, and make recommendations for a national network of social and racial justice leaders across multiple issue and practice fields. 

In addition to research, the RA will also be brought into the planning and coordination of meetings and events.  Assignments may include outreach, material development, logistical support, and note taking during the meetings.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic research skills and ability to carry out interviews
  • Demonstrated writing ability and competence with Microsoft Word
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently
  • A demonstrated interest in issues of social change
