Position: Office Assistant
Term: Fall 2014 

The Haas Institute for a Fair & Inclusive Society’s (HIFIS) Administrative Management is seeking one student office assistant. We are looking for an energetic, organized and pro-active student with great attention to detail. The position will require 10-15 hours of work per week. Hourly wage is based on education/experience. No benefits are provided. This position is eligible for students with or without work study funds.

The Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society at UC Berkeley brings together researchers, community stakeholders, policymakers and communicators to identify and challenge the barriers to an inclusive, just and sustainable society and create transformative change.  The Institute serves as a national hub of a vibrant network of researchers and community partners and will take a leadership role in translating, communicating and facilitating research, policy and strategic engagement. Required Duties

The office assistant will be involved with, but not limited to:

  • Office/supply orders
  • Book sales and inventory
  • Database, Contact and Mail management
  • Research tasks, scanning book chapters, citations, proof reading
  • Upkeep of office appearance
  • Able to staff Institute events
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Skills

  • Interest in social justice
  • Experience in working with one or more of the following:
  1. Project-Management tools
  2. Data storage (online and in-house)
  3. Communication tools (conference lines, virtual meetings, communication software/technology)
  4. Organizing events and travel
  5. Social Media
  • The ability to multi-task and change priorities quickly
  • Clear communication of progress/needs/updates
  • Able to anticipate short-term and long-term needs
  • The ability to work independently and also to assist with groups or individuals’ needs when called upon
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, (especially in regards to tight deadlines) The ability to multi-task and change priorities quickly
