Ivan Natividad serves as Assistant Director of Communications at the Othering & Belonging Institute. He started his career working as a community organizer in the City of Richmond, and he also managed youth programs in San Francisco's Tenderloin District. In 2008, he began working as a freelance journalist, contributing to media outlets like The Nation, WireTap Magazine, Asian Week, SF Bay Guardian and Hyphen Magazine.
After studying journalism at Georgetown University, he worked as a reporter in Washington D.C. for publications such as Roll Call, USA Today, and Homicide Watch D.C. In California, he wrote for rural area newspapers reporting on business, education, government and managed a copy desk team as a digital editor in the Sierra Foothills.
Ivan transitioned into communications as a digital content producer and social media manager for San Francisco State University. In 2019, he joined Berkeley's public affairs team as a media relations specialist and writer where he promoted campus research for departments in Berkeley's College of Letters and Science, and wrote about initiatives created by the campus's equity and inclusion office.
