On February 16, 2021, Director john a. powell gave a talk on Housing Justice as part of the Endowment of Equal Justice's six part series on racial justice, "Let's Talk about (In)Justice." powell first situated the topic of housing within the Othering & Belonging framework and provided a historical overview of the Fair Housing Act of 1968. powell then discussed place-based versus mobility-based strategies and offered new framing in the form of opportunity-based housing, housing that explicitly focuses on providing access to opportunity. powell emphasized that next steps toward housing justice should include opportunity mapping and decommodifying housing.
