Image on Bridging and Belonging: A Responsibility and Inheritance of the Dream

On January 18 2021, Director powell addressed students, faculty and communities at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Banquet which has been a Thurston County tradition for more than 30 years. Started by the Thurston Group of Washington State (a non-profit who focused on raising money for Black youth to attend HBCUs), the banquet is an event that celebrates scholarships for local Black students and honors community organizations supporting youth of color in our area. Director Powell discussed the role of institutions and belonging in a time of heavy division within our own Democracy.
