On April 12, 2023, OBI director john a. powell was a featured panelist in a webinar introducing Over Zero and the American Immigration Council’s Belonging Barometer—as well as reporting the results of a national survey which featured the Barometer. powell highlighted, among other things, the importance of agency and co-creation in a robust conception of belonging and the challenges of using surveys to measure the impact of othering and belonging across large groups. The other panelists included Nichole Argo (lead author of The Belonging Barometer report), Melissa Rhodes Carter (Senior Manager of Community at Walmart.org), and Michelle Barsa (Principal of the Building Cultures of Belonging initiative for the Omidyar Network).
