Haas Institute's Assistant Director Stephen Menendian was a panelist at last week's Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights day long symposium in Washington, D.C ( (http://www.towardjusticecampaign.org/symposium). The symposium, held at Georgetown Law Center, was entitled “Racial Justice in the New America.” The purpose of the symposium was not only to celebrate the Lawyers’ Committee 50th Anniversary but to discuss how legal approaches can work together with other methods to combat entrenched racial inequality. Stephen joined the second AM plenery panel to discuss innovative approaches to civil and human rights beyond the traditional litigation model. Stephen stressed the importance of continuing to see courts as agents of change, innovative and proactive legal strategies, and drawing upon social science and other experts.
