Breakout Sessions

A context of rising authoritarianism emphasises more than ever the need for unified struggles across marginalised communities. As the far-right increasingly deploys divide and conquer tactics to pit marginalised communities against each other, more and more communities experience specific forms of structural exclusion.

This session will gather funders interested in sharing ideas and practices to strengthen democracy and belonging. We are keen to discuss emerging work in the European context and how this connects with learning and experiences at the global level.

This session aims to delve into the process of countering hatred through community mobilization, spotlighting a successful case study from Spain's recent general elections.

When it comes to addressing othering and building a world in which everyone gets to belong, it can be tempting to orient our attention solely to the systems that perpetuate that othering, to focus our critiques on the actors we feel responsible for othering ideologies, and to engage only our intellect in the heavy work of socio-political change and movement-building.

Over the past decade, it has become viscerally clear to those working at the forefront of migrant and human rights that preventative measures are necessary to stop the spread of authoritarian ideologies online, which often target vulnerable communities.

This breakout session will double as the launch of Systemic Justice’s speaker series, which tells an alternative story of the climate emergency in Europe from the perspectives of Black, Indigenous, and Communities of Colour who have laid the foundation for the movement we’ve come to recognize today.

Polarization has been used to describe the political and social realities of societies across the world. To a certain degree, it has been overused so much that it has become a blanket term to describe an array of diverse realities.
