On September 16, 2023, OBI director was a featured speaker in a forum hosted by the de Young Museum as part of the Kehinde Wiley Speaker Series (organized around the exhibition of Kehinde Wiley’s An Archaeology of Silence). The event, moderated by Pastor Michael McBride, centered the history of expropriation experienced by the peoples of the African Diaspora and what a real effort at collective repair could and should look like. Other speakers included Angela Glover Blackwell (Founder in Residence at Policy Link), Dr. Ron Daniels (President of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century), Dr. Julianne Malveaux (President Emerita of Bennett College for Women), Tinisch Hollins (Founder of SF Black Wallstreet), and Justin Hansford (Executive Director at the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center).
