The Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley brings together researchers, organizers, stakeholders, communicators, and policymakers to identify and eliminate the barriers to an inclusive, just, and sustainable society in order to create transformative change.
Katherine Funes (they/she) is a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Irvine in the department of Global & International Studies from Los Angeles. Their research sits at the intersections of queer mobilities, environmental justice, and abolition among El Salvador’s LGBTIQ communities. They received their BA in Ethnic Studies and Political Science from Mills College and were previously the Director of the Rose Foundation for Communities & the Environment’s New Voices Are Rising program where they organized alongside Bay Area youth on environmental justice issues. They love the beach, film photography, and crocheting.
