Following Professor Stovall's death several institutions found ways to memorialize his legacy. They include:

1. UC Berkeley's Tyler Stovall Memorial Endowment

Professor Tyler Stovall's many contributions to Berkeley History, and the broader campus, has been memorialized with a special new endowment in the UC Berkeley Department of History, called the Professor Tyler Stovall Memorial Endowment. This new endowment has been crafted in partnership with those who were close to Professor Stovall, and his vision to support graduate students of European History. The endowment will identify and enable students who have demonstrated a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of History, and whose research explores questions of racial and/or ethnic enslavement, oppression, injustice, colonization, and decoloniality.

2. Fordham University's Tyler E. Stovall Fellowship Fund

Following Tyler Stovall's death, Fordham University set up a fellowship fund to memorialize his legacy. Gifts to the Tyler E. Stovall Fellowship Fund will promote equity and social justice in the spirit of Dr. Stovall’s distinguished career of teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and advocacy.

These endowed fellowships will provide financial support to students of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences who are part of underrepresented populations, economically disadvantaged, or among the first in their families to attend college.

Preference will be given to students from Fordham's Graduate School of Arts & Sciences whose work addresses themes related to equity and social justice.

Supporters can contribute to the fund through the university's website here.

3. Tyler Stovall WSFH Mission Prize

In a separate recognition of Professor Stovall's legacy, members of the Western Society for French History voted unanimously following his death to rename its newly-created mission prize after him. Now called the Tyler Stovall WSFH Mission Prize, the award honors and celebrates the often under-acknowledged work of striving to foster greater equity and inclusion in the production and transmission of knowledge about the francophone world.

Professor Stovall had been one of the nominees for this year’s inaugural WSFH Mission Prize before his untimely death. This unique award aims to recognize the work of educators in French and Francophone history and studies from all walks of life, in every stage of their careers, including those whose careers have taken them beyond academia.
