Join us in learning from UC Berkeley’s graduate students in two new policy memos on housing policy for belonging, adapted from their much longer student projects! These memos offer lessons for advocates, funders, legislators, and other change-makers and serve as a resource for future research.
- From Vulnerability to Resilience: Improving Equity-Focused Methods for Allocating Home Retrofit Assistance Funding by Shuting Ren (MPP 2025) explores how incorporating housing data can help county health departments better serve those most impacted by climate change. This report summarizes a much longer body of work done for the Alameda County Public Health Department.
- Policy Approaches to Addressing the Intersections of Incarceration & Homelessness: An Exploration of the Alameda County Housing Crisis Response System by Ali Fitch (ASW, MSW 2025) makes the case for more humanizing policy frameworks for responding to the crises of homelessness and incarceration. This memo builds on an evaluation she completed in 2024 for the Alameda County Housing Crisis Response System.
These deep dives offer lessons on methods for targeting funding, measures to minimize the impact on vulnerable groups, and recommendations for future research. For more context, click here to read the call for proposals.
