Screenprinting with Steam Exchange

Steam Exchange (StEx) is a grassroots nonprofit organization located in the Smoketown Neighborhood of Louisville, KY. Our mission is to facilitate passion-driven learning experiences where individuals explore the world, themselves, and the arts through creative play and production. We use the arts to teach concepts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEAM). We work toward greater equity in our community by amplifying voice, showcasing creativity and leadership, and co-creating collaborative, public art with youth of color and low-income youth.

Steam Exchange provides free, safe, structured afterschool and summer programs for Smoketown youth ages 5-18. Over the years, StEx has taught classes in screen printing, bookbinding, painting, fashion design, stop motion, and more. We facilitate camps and hire youth interns each summer. StEx youth have painted 3 public murals, completed 2 collaborative screen printed books with out of state youth, designed/built a canoe, and organized 7 feminist fashion shows. At StEx, youth find a place where they can learn, grow and feel safe to be themselves. We are unique in the depth and authenticity of peer to peer and intergenerational relationships we build and innovative in the level of youth leadership in our program design and organizational development. Our program maintains small class sizes with a low student-teacher ratio. We form multi-year relationships with youth and their families. We intentionally create a culture of acceptance and support.

Come screen print a custom conference tote bag with Steam Exchange! We will have our on-site screen printing set up for the hour. You can print and dry your tote all on-site and take the bag home with you as a conference keepsake.
