Building Common Ground through Storytelling with the KY Rural-Urban Exchange

This session aligns with the Bridging and Democracy & Belonging conference tracks and centers storytelling and bridging. The session focuses on contextualizing place, listening and sharing, and cultural strategies to cultivate belonging and connections across differences.

This session has a limited capacity and is first come, first served. Pick up your ticket for this session at the OBI Info Booth. Participants will meet at 1:50pm at the OBI Info Booth in the Commons and leave at 2:05pm sharp for a short, 5-minute walk to their destination.

Join the Kentucky Rural-Urban Exchange (RUX) for an experiential, participatory session showcasing how sense of place and storytelling can create the relational conditions to bridge distance and difference. The experience begins at KICC with a guided walk to Louisville Public Media led by staff from the Appalachia + Mid-South Newsroom, grounding participants in local context along the way. At LPM, participants will learn about RUX’s work and take part in storytelling experiences that offer a chance to listen and to share.

Attendees will gain a more complex, intercultural understanding of Kentucky, and will experience cultural strategies to foster sharing and reflection across divides.

This session is meant for everyone. Participants of all sectors, career stages, ages, backgrounds, and geographies are invited to learn more about Louisville’s cultural scene and about KY RUX’s storytelling methodologies for bridging difference and expressing lived experience.
